Test car drivers and other supporters topped up the Scout House financial tank with more than $2,000 in revenue during the recent Drive A Ford fundraiser for the Scout House Cadets and Band.
Ridgehill Ford Sales, 217 Hespeler Road, contributed $20 per driver for about 90 individuals who took a Ford product for a test drive during the event, based at the Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre, a reliable business partner for many Scout House Band activities. Extra revenue was earned at a barbecue and a donations jar at the registration table. The fund raising event included video displays, performances by the Cadets, recruiting activities for the whole Scout House Band organization and promotion of the 2014 Scout House Band Invitational Tattoo held in Waterloo August 9.
Scout House Band supplied hot dogs, buns and condiments along with bottled water, soft drinks and coolers for the fundraiser. Hotel staff barbecued the hot dogs, which sold for $2. Barbecue proceeds were shared equally with the hotel.
Ridgehill Ford provided about 10 vehicles in the front parking lot of the hotel. The most popular car throughout the day was a white Mustang convertible, which created a waiting list of patient drivers who kept the car in constant motion.
Drivers registered to verify qualifications, receive a route map and proceed with the 15-minute test drive through a section of the Preston neighbourhood of Cambridge then east on Highway 401 to Hespeler Road South and back into the hotel command centre. The route maps distributed to drivers included recruiting information and 2014 Scout House Invitational Tattoo details.
