March 28

‘Leaving Home’ concert and farewell ceremony at Knights of Columbus building, including performances by all groups and presentation of gifts to friends of the Band – Tony Costa and Wilf Rettinger.


Colouring pictures featuring Scout House image distributed to young people in the community through the four Cambridge library branches.

May 5 – Binghampton, New York

Heritage Drill Team, Band and Silver Leaves performed at annual Great Alliance of Seniors (GAS) reunion weekend.

Anniversary Pins

80th year anniversary lapel pins available to members, friends, supporters.

May 15

All five groups represented during performance of national anthem and Scout House information update to Cambridge city council.

May 25

Deadline for applications for Wilf Blum Youth Music Scholarship of $800.

June 30

Scout House Community Barbecue, included performances by all groups, silent auction of vintage instruments, display of vintage awards, pictures, programs etc, presentation to Blum scholarship winner, presentation to 12 colouring contest winners.

July 1

Alumni Band participation in Preston Canada Day parade followed by social time at Preston Royal Canadian Legion branch.

July 14

Band performance in Central Park during Preston Towne Centre Festival. Summer promotion by the business group included Scout House banners on utility poles and sidewalk pictures of Band’s downtown appearance in 1999. Scout House souvenir table featured T-shirts, caps, rain ponchos, 80th year pins and free history books.

July and onward

Scout House history books made available free to Cambridge seniors through the city’s four 50+ recreation centres. Replenished throughout the summer as required.

September 29

Band, Cadets and Silver Leaves perform during Cambridge Cultural Days festival. Concert arranged through City recreation department as an anniversary year ‘thank you’ for community support.

October 5

Scout House flag to be raised at city hall to mark start of Band activities by 1st Preston Scout Troop in October, 1938.

October 6

Best ball golf tourney and buffet meal for members, family and friends at Grand Valley Golf and Country Club.

November 11

Band to participate in Remembrance Day ceremonies at Preston cenotaph.
