Preston Scout House Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps

The Scout House Cadets shares its name with the original Scout House Cadets, a group which was active throughout the 1960s as a feeder group for the senior band. It continued for several years even after Scout House Band ceased activity in 1967.

Our History

In September 2012, the world famous Preston Scout House Alumni Band, in hopes of reviving the drum & bugle corps tradition with the younger generation, started a junior drum line called the Preston Scout House Cadets.  In their first year as a drum line, this group performed at the 2012 KW Symphony’s “Drums, Drums, Drums”, opened the Cambridge Arts Festival, played in the annual Preston Scout House Spring Opening Show, marched in the Cambridge Canada Day Parade and wrapped up their season performing at that year's Scout House Tattoo at University Stadium in Waterloo, in front of over 3,500 people.  In December 2013, the Cadets drum line performed with the KW Symphony for 4 shows in the Yuletide Spectacular Show at the Centre in the Square.

The Preston Scout House Cadets announced in the fall of 2013 that they would be adding a new horn line and changed their name to the Preston Scout House Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps.  The drum and horn lines played their first ensemble together at the Scout House Band’s Spring Show in April 2014.  In May 2014, the drum line of the Preston Scout House Cadets received “First Place” in their Independent "A" Percussion Standstill 2 Class performance at the Drumline Ontario Provincials!

In the fall of 2014, the Preston Scout House Cadets added a Colour Guard to create a full Corps.  In May 2015, the whole Corps ensembled for their first SoundSport performance at the Drumline Ontario Championships and achieved a bronze award!

On May 15, 2016, with the start of a field show in their repertoire, the Cadets returned to the Drumline Ontario Championships to achieve a Silver award in SoundSport division.  Add to that a performance as part of a 350 piece massed band for the Toronto Argonauts home opener, a live performance on City TV’s Breakfast Television, and a spot on City TV’s Cityline Back to School Special.  As always, the Cadets rounded out their season with their performance at the Scout House Band’s Annual Invitational Tattoo, including their first FULL field show.  What a season!

The Preston Scout House Cadets drum & bugle corps has approximately 30 musicians and colour guard members. They corps participates in various parades and other special events in the Waterloo region and in towns and cities in South-western Ontario every year.

All youth aged 10-18 years are accepted regardless of musical level, skill or background.  Our annual fee is a modest $40/year.  Our goal is to have fun, learn music and keep the program accessible and affordable to everyone that would like to join.
